Added text is highlighted in green and removed text in red. In the Inline view, removed text is also struck through. Above the result, the tool shows how many characters were added and removed. If both texts are identical, the tool says so and both counts are zero. Editing either text clears the result, so click Compare Text again after a change.
The comparison is character-level: it finds the exact characters that were added or deleted, using the open-source diff-match-patch library, and then groups small changes into readable chunks. Because every character counts, extra spaces, changed line breaks and different capitalisation all appear as changes. There are no options to ignore whitespace or case.
In the Side-by-Side view, the Original panel shows the first text with removals highlighted and the Modified panel shows the second text with additions highlighted. The panels are not aligned line by line and do not show line numbers. The Inline view shows a single combined text with both kinds of change in place.
Your text is compared in your browser and is never uploaded. The comparison code itself is downloaded the first time you click Compare Text, so that first comparison needs an internet connection.
