How to Make a QR Code

Static QR Codes: No Redirects, No Expiry

This generator creates static QR codes: your URL or text is encoded directly into the pattern. Nothing passes through a DevMeldex server or a redirect link when someone scans it, so the code keeps working for as long as the destination does.

The trade-off is that a static code cannot be edited after you print it. To change where it points, you have to make and print a new code. Dynamic QR codes avoid this by sending every scan through a redirect service, which can usually be updated and can count scans, but the code then depends on that service staying online.

Size, Colours and Error Correction

• Colours: dark modules on a light background with strong contrast are the most widely supported. Some scanners have trouble with light-on-dark or low-contrast codes, so test your colour choice before printing.
• Error correction: higher levels (up to 30%) let a code survive damage or dirt, but they add modules and make the pattern denser. Medium suits most uses.
• Content length: longer text also makes the code denser, and very long content will not fit at all. Short URLs scan fastest.
• Size: the downloaded PNG is up to 536 × 536 pixels, including a margin around the code. That suits screens, documents and small print. Scaling a PNG up can blur the edges, so always test the code at its final printed size.
